Research outline and main results
The research aims at assessing the structural changes occurring in the
economic system of the Lombardy Region and the strategic questions for its
future development. The investigation is based on an extensive survey at
the firm level, which addresses some of the main issues debated at the regional
level since the elaboration of the last census data (2001). The
questionnaire, submitted to a large sample of manufacturing and service
firms, comprises sections on productive organization, outsourcing,
internationalisation, innovation, human resources and investment
financing.
The collected evidence is to complement analyses based on census data in
providing a detailed picture of current trends, structural changes,
perceived constraints and opportunities, thus offering the policy maker a
sound base for evaluation of current policies and design of future ones.
