DIME

Dynamics of Institutions and Markets in Europe

DIME (EU-6th Framework Network of Excellence) aims at integrating three dimensions of economic analysis and social sciences, and in particular geography and economic geography to address:

  • the analysis of the generation, accumulation, and exchange of knowledge
  • the study of governance, institutional frameworks and public policies
  • the analysis of social and spatial proximity as influencing cohesion and the above

DIME was established to create a research-oriented Network of Excellence to investigate the economics and governance of dynamic economic and social systems from the micro to the macro level and to begin a process of integration with a broader set of disciplines involving the study of spatiality (i.e. social, geographic, cognitive, and other ideas where distance and proximity can be meaningfully defined). One essential goal is to address contemporary challenges facing the European Union, its member states, its companies and its citizens in managing the transition to a knowledge-based economy and society in the context of its enlargement and of the globalisation of the economy.

DIME is organised around three main Research Activity Lines (RALs) and three Structural Activities Lines (SALs) .

  • RAL1: Dynamics of Individual and Organisational Knowledge in a Regional Context.
  • RAL2: The Creation, Accumulation and Exchange of Knowledge in Networks, Sectors and Regions.
  • RAL3: Dynamics of Knowledge Accumulation, Competitiveness, Regional Cohesion and Economic Policies: a Micro-to-Macro-Approach.

CESPRI is involved in RAL1 and RAL3 and is the coordinator of RAL2.

For what regards the three SALs:

  • SAL1: Integrating and developing training activities associated with DIME
  • SAL2: Developing the information structure of DIME
  • SAL3: Disseminating to and interacting with stakeholders.

CESPRI is involved in SAL1 and SAL3.
